Blackberry Torch 9800

Hi, when making and receiving calls on my Torch 9800 I have to shout for the other person to hear me. I can hear them perfectly well but they cannot hear me! I have used the volume control on the side to turn up the sound but this does not improve the problem. Is there something within the phones settings that I or my 2 year old daughter may have changed by accident? Please help, many thanks, Alec

Re: Blackberry Torch 9800

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Best!

Re: Blackberry Torch 9800

Hi, thanks for your reply. I have tried the reboot and it has not made any difference. Any other ideas?

Re: Blackberry Torch 9800

OK...then I next recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:

  • KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.

If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.

But if the behavior continues in Safe Mode, you may need to consider more drastic measures (wipe, reload OS, BBSAK wipe/reload, etc.). Keep in mind that we can't actually diagnose your issue, especially if it's a hardware problem. Rather, all we can do is, by trying different things, hopefully deduce to a most likely root cause...and, again if that is hardware, there's no amount of recommendations we can give to help...hardware problems can only be dealt with by a qualified hardware technician with the device in their hands.

Good luck and let us know!
