Blackberry Torch Won't Update

When I go to update my phone it freezes up when it is backing up my files. It starts okay gets to a section called Slacker Confirguration Settings and then stops.

Need help please!

Thanks,

Jeff

Re: Blackberry Torch Won't Update

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

If you are attempting this via the on-device wireless update, I recommend that you STOP. The on-device update takes an on-device backup, from which it restores after the update succeeds. But, if it fails for any reason, the backup file is lost forever, along with all of your data. Hence, I only recommend using the PC/USB method to perform an update.

If you are using the on-device update, please shift to the PC/USB method. If you need instructions, just ask.

If you are already using the PC/USB method, then that database may be very full or corrupt. How long do you wait before you decide that it's frozen? I've heard, here on this site, of many hours needing to be waited...but eventually it finishes.

Good luck and let us know!

Re: Blackberry Torch Won't Update

I try to connect to my pc by the usb. I wanted about an hour and a half and the first few minutes it seemed to work fine then just stopped while backing up the device. From there it did nothing for about an hour and a half.

Re: Blackberry Torch Won't Update

Somehow, I suspect there are a lot more steps than that...but I think I understand what you are doing. Given all that I've seen from others posting here, I recommend you wait a lot longer...maybe leave it overnight.

Torch 9810 freezes on reload

so my att torch 9810, after a battery pull froze up on the reload bar about quarter done. I tried reloading the latest O/S, wiping the device and re-installing the O/S, even tried downgrading. I also tried doing it on safe mode, but couldn't get it to switch, and get the same result

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Unfortunately, I cannot tell if you were successful with the highlighted items...not concerning the boot up problem, but with the process of upgrading/downgrading/reloading your OS itself. Consequently, here is a process you may also want to try to perhaps narrow down the precise causal item:

  1. Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
  2. If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
  3. If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
  4. Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
  5. If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents

When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.

If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.

If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.

Good luck and let us know!

Sorry, but, with the incredible number of steps above, options therein, the iterative nature of the process, and the time consuming nature (e.g., running long enough to know that the behavior will not re-present), I really can't tell at all from "No Luck yet" what to next advise you...any details?
