Blackberry torch and gmail

Hey!

I'm a new BB user and would like to ask, how could I sync my BB and my gmail account?

I have a BB id, a valid PIN but I can't setup any email account. Before I would like to setup any email account, I should activate my account at BB, but it says: "Activation request failed - a service connection is unavailable".

So what next? I don't really understand. I have to pay for any kind of messaging (even if I would like to emailing via wifi)?

Thx
Gergő

Re: Blackberry torch and gmail

On your Manage Connections screen, click on the Services Status.
What is the status of the BlackBerry Internet Service?

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan enabled on your account with your carrier or mobile provider?
You must, in order to get the RIM push email functions you are looking for, as well as additional BlackBerry data services such as the internet browser, Facebook for BlackBerry, BlackBerry Messenger, and much more.

So, call your carrier and inquire about having the BlackBerry Data Plan added to your account.

Good luck.

Re: Blackberry torch and gmail

I could use my browser and fb account (the messages and events appears like a message) via wifi, so that works.

It's strange, because it works on every other platform. I thought it would work on BB too (without push, data encryption, etc...).

Re: Blackberry torch and gmail

No, all mail must have the BIS data plan on BBOS devices such as your Torch.

Re: Blackberry torch and gmail

All email setup directly with push on the BlackBerry for POP or IMAP will require the BIS data plan.

You could use the browser to the gmail mobile site on WiFi only, I suppose

Re: Blackberry torch and gmail

So the email client won't work only via wifi, it needs the the BIS data plan.

I have to know that, because u r a Resident Expert (so I trust u :smileyhappy: ), but if I would like to know something, I don't stop the searching until I find it :smileyhappy:
