DM 6 won't recognize Torch 9800 via USB

Hi everyone.  I'm new here and have been using BBs for a very long time.  I just got a Torch and DM sync'd to it for awhile and then just stopped on 9/10/10.  I'm using Win 7 and the OS doesn't even come up with the device or smart card has a drive any longer when I connect it; however, other USB devices do.  The 9800 does charge so I know the USB is working.  The 9800 used to bring up a message box to sync, Charge Only, etc and this no longer happens either.  DM 6 also does not have the Connections menu to select USB any longer.  What am I missing here?  All help will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, CCall

Hello ccall75070 and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.

 

Try doing the following:

 

Restart your computer

Connect your BlackBerry

Launch the Desktop Manager

Leaving the BlackBerry connected, remove the battery for 2 seconds

Reinsert the battery and let the device power on

BDS6  under Windows 7 recognized my USB connection last Thursday after several reinstalls using Repair mode of both DM6 and Device Manager.  (Note that Programs and Features uninstall often failed owing to the following error:Config.msi\87779ee.rbf GetLastError:32 or a different .rbf code).  Battery removal doesn't work and the pins on the USB cable don't appear misaligned.  Currently Device Manager shows the USB as "Connected" while BDS6 keeps prompting to connect the USB cable.  I ran Troubleshoot Compatibility which returned this report

BDS6 recognizes USB connection on a laptop running Vista Business. Seems from this forum that the USB connection problem is widespread enough to require a code fix for Windows 7.

Shortly after posting, I tried to repair BDS 6 on my Windows 7 Desktop..Repair  failed with an error on a .rbf config file and rolled back.

 

Reinstalled the Device software with the Device connected by USB and it connected.  Sync failed the first time and required a reset of the config options for the Outlook Calendar. Success.  Then backed up successfully.
