Desktop Manager doesn't detect device

I have spent countless hours trying to connect my device to the desktop manager.  When I launch the desktop manager, connect my device, the screen continues to say "Connect Your Blackberry Device".  I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the desktop manager and it doesn't seem to work. I need serious help!

If it helps, I'm running Windows 7, desktop manager v6.1.0.36, and I have a torch 9800.  I never had this problem until I upgraded to 6.1
