GETTING RID OF "+" SIGN WHEN AUTO-DIALING!!! help please!

Help is sorely needed.

I live in China but am using a Torch bought in Canada with China Unicom SIM Card.

After I enter someone's number in my contacts, I try to call them by clicking on their name, and the BB adds a "+" before the number. Example, number is 186 0123 4567, but it dials +186 0123 4567. It dials and then says that the number does not exist, but that is because it automatically inserted a "+" before the number.

When I manually dial the same number without the "+", 186 0123 4567, the call works.

HOW DO I PREVENT THE BB FROM ADDING A "+" BEFORE?? It is extremely annoying to have to look at someone's number, write it down or try to memorize it, then dial, rather than just clicking on the contact.

Help please!! thanks!

Hi TallNick,

This is smart-dialing feature, by which can set a default country code and area code for phone numbers so that you do not have to dial a country code and area code each time that you make a call.

To Set the default country code and area code:

  1. From the Home screen, press the Send key.
  2. Press the Menu key.
  3. Click Options.
  4. Click Smart Dialing.
  5. Set the Country Code and Area Code fields.
  6. If necessary, set the Local Country Code and International Dialing Digits fields.
  7. In the National Number Length field, set the default length for phone numbers in your country.
  8. Press the Menu key.
  9. Click Save.
Note: When you calculate the default length for phone numbers, include your area code and local number, but do not include your country code or the National Direct Dialing prefix.
