Your carrier: Waridtel Pakistan (prepaid)
Model info and OS version: 9800 Torch ; 6.0 Bundle 2534(v184.108.40.2060, Platform 220.127.116.11)
I recently received BB 9800 Torch as a gift from my uncle.
It's software unclocked.
It is my first ever BB and I'm going nuts with it.
I'm located in Karachi, Pakistan.
First of all, when setting up email it only shows Enterprise Activation and no option for personal email account.
Does personal email also gets enabled when someone has BIS?
I do not have BIS for the moment.
Secondly, I cannot use WLM,Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk etc...
Says service is not enabled for this handset.
Next the BB MAPS shows that it is installed on the handset via DM but no icon appears.
After hours of searching, I downloaded a BBMAPS Launcher, which is working ok for the moment.
But I cannot view any maps, is there a way to downlaod maps?
Next I downloaded Google Maps using BB, ver. 4.5.3...
And when I launch it it gives an error which says:
this application requires
a data connection
and some BB devices require reconfiguration to work
What could be the issue?
For some reason I can use FB for BB without any data plan or anything, FB is updated to 2.0 something.
Can anybody please help a n00b like me with this?
Is there a problem with the handset or will everything work fine once I activate BIS?
I fear that the handset is on BES and not on BIS...
Can it be changed from BES to BIS?
Also whenever in any app I try to check updates, it says cannot check updates.
And since AppWorld isn't available in my country I can't use it.
Thank you in advance.

Your uncle bought the phone from someone who had the phone on BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server). That means that the previous person got it from their employer and ran off their employer's server. When they sold the phone to your uncle, they didn't remove the IT policy. Follow the instructions in this article to do that:
www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB14202 (use method #3)
Once you've done that, you can call Waridtel to sign up for BIS. With BIS on your monthly plan, you'll be able to access ALL BlackBerry functions.
I hope that helps you.

If that's the case, you might have to call Waridtel for advice. What I suggested is the only way I know to uninstall a BES on a BlackBerry phone. You could also use the Security Wipe feature, but that doesn't remove a BES policy.
I don't suggest this often, but you should call your carrier on this one.
