My BB Torch 9860 wont charge or turn on

A few days ago i updated my phone and today it wouldnt get any signal so i turned the phone off and on, still no signal, so i turned it off and on again and still nothing. So i took out the battery and restarted the phone, i did this 3 times and now it wont turn on at all.

When i plug the charger in, the phone wont charge.

I dont know if the battery has gone all together so ive ordered a new one.

Could anything else be wrong with me phone.

Thanks

Re: My BB Torch 9860 wont charge or turn on

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):

  1. With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
  2. Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
  3. Remove the battery
  4. Wait 15 minutes
  5. Insert the battery
  6. Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does

This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.

It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:

  1. Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
  2. Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens

The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.

In all of the above, please note carefully the phrase "known good"...that is critical. And "new" does not necessarily mean "known good"...while rare, it's perfectly possible for a "new" item to be defective.

Good luck and let us know!

Re: My BB Torch 9860 wont charge or turn on

Hi - I have the same problem. I have tried all of the things suggested here, including getting a brand new battery. THe frusrating thing was, as soon as i put the new battery in, the phone started up fine. Like with all new bateries, I was intedning to let the battery discharge completely and then fully recharge a few times to 'condition' it, but once the battery had run dwn the phone is back exhibtiing the same problems it had with the 'old' batery in it. Its almost as if the the phone is doing something to the battery. Any ideas ( and yes, the phone is out of warranty!)

Well, the test above does specify a "known good" battery...while rare, a new battery can certainly be defective. The best way to test is to find someone with an identical BB who does not have these problems...trade batteries and see what happens.

Actually, I suspect your conditioning routine. The idea of fully draining a battery is "old school", and is actually contractory to best practices for newer technology batteries. These newer batteries should not be allowed to drain down ever...indeed, doing so can damage the battery, including rendering it useless. There are many articles on the subject, including this one:

Many of the articles provide conflicting recommendations, so each person should read up and judge for themselves how to proceed. But, your results may well lend credence to the "don't let it drain" faction among the articles.

Good luck!
