I have a new BB Torch and lost again today all my Contacts. This seem to happen after I edit/add a Contact.
Rebooting does not help, also both options for Business / Personal contacts are unticked.
It is like they are still inside, but hidden, because when I choose "Contacts" - "Options" - "Contact List", it shows there are 363 Contacts. But don't know where they went to.... :-s
Stupid I know, but I also have a new laptop and I did not sync or back-up my new BB yet.
Any ideas? You really make my day if you can help me out here!
PS; after rebooting, I get these messages:
and after pressing OK;
Index 361 >= 1"

Can you tell us which torch do you have? 9800,9810,9859/60?
Whis exact os version?
Did you change/update the os version?
How did you load the contacts into the BB? manually, batch load in any form, BES...?

It is a 9800 Torch I guess from your profile. Is this correct?

Yes it is a Torch 9800.
An IT colleague from the company that I have left last week, helped restoring the Contacts from my old company device, via the Desktop Manager on my old company laptop.
Where can I check the OS?

Forget about os version. If you don't know how to check os version it is very unlikely you updated your device with an unofficial firmware version.
So, from you explanations, I guess there is no data in the contact list when you enter in the Contacts icon. Am I right?
If so, can you check there is no filter activated in the contact list, please? (just to check obvious things first)

If you think contacts are still there, can you please try to seek a contact by name?
If you manually add a new contact is it added to the total amount of contacts?
Does the new contact get "hidden" also?
Also you should try to fix the exception error.

Nothing happens when I seek on names, and if I add a contact, it does not show as new one. It also get hidden (if they are hidden...)
I just went to the store to get a new device (warranty), as I'm afraid it's a software problem that is not very common.
Because I am in the middle of a relocation to another continent, I can't miss my BB for a few days.
Hopefully the new device does not give my the same problem, will add my Contacts manually from an Excel sheet I exported a while ago from my Outlook (unless there is an easy way to import an Excel sheet with contact details into your BB?)

Sure, there are many ways to import a contact list from excel.
The one a would try is to export the excel to a csv format, import the contact list into an outlook express (available to any windows) and using the BB desktop PC program synchronize them to the new BB.
So I presume you do not need to poke to the contact list issue anymore. Right?
If you like the way to sync contact to the BB, you can mark the answer as "I like"
