Chinese and East Asian character display on Blackberry 9800
I uninstalled all BB software from my computer.
Choose a download site from:
http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/downloa
I used Brightstar Hong Kong's site.
Chose Blackberry 9800 from:
https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/Downloads/brows
Select Blackberry 9800
Two files are shown as downloadable
Chose the file named below and download it into your BB software folder
BlackBerry Handheld Software v6.0.0.695 (All Languages)
This is the file containing Asian languages
Package Version: 6.0.0.695
Consisting of:
Applications: 6.0.0.246
Software Platform: 6.4.0.105
File name: 9800jAllLang_PBr6.0.0_rel695_PL6.4.0.105_A6.0.0.24
File size: 182.49MB
Download Desktop Software v6.0.2 B45 from your service provider (this is described as multi-language but contains only European languages) into the same folder from:
https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/Downloads/conta
Back up all data from the 9800
Turn off firewall
Open Desktop and the Asian languages should be visible and selectable for installation on the 9800
Download them from the computer to the phone.
Turned on the firewall again.
I am not a techie, so some of these steps may not be necessary but they worked for me.
BTW Finding out how to do this was a VERY time consuming exercise. It is hugely surprising that RIM do not cater for such a simple and much demanded facility in a more customer friendly manner.
Best of luck and I hope it works for you.
