Slow phone (Torch 9860)

Hi,

Just wondering if other people are experiencing the same issue.

I am a fan of my Torch 9860 but have the issue that the phone is very slow. The keyboard is appearing slowly, when leaving the screensaver for the password entrance it takes a couple of seconds before the phone reacts, applications open slowly and I get the OS waiting cursor more and more.

Is there something to check/do about this?

It is really annoying.

Marcel

Re: Slow phone (Torch 9860)

Hello,

Please check your installed OS against what is available:

Also, please hold the Logo_Blue.gif and see what shows up on the AppSwitcher Ribbon. If there is more than Messages, Home, Phone, Browser, and BBM, then you may have some additional apps that you are leaving running that are consuming resources.

Further, please do a Batt-pull reboot:

  • Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

And see how things operate from a fresh reboot.

Lastly, what is your File Free value? What is it right after the Batt Pull as compared to after running your BB for some length of time (e.g., days)?

Best!

just to add

On device go to Options, Device, Application Management is a great way to see what your apps are doing with your CPU usage on Smartphone. Just slide top bar to CPU and see what is going on. Also touch the CPU menu to see other time variables. I found out that an app was eating away CPU cycles on mine

Disable Compression on media card? go to Options, Device, Storage

using a custom theme? try it for a day the factory default one to rule out your theme

remember the esc key closes most apps, except for GPS and some chat clients. the other apps need to use menu and then exit or close. The farthest key to the right is a home key and does not close any apps per se but will end calls.

Re: Slow phone (Torch 9860)

I am running the lastest software and everything seems to look ok.

Memory is the only thing that might concern. I have 1/4 free memory. The CPU usage is not high (also not when I look at the last day). This morning I was using an application to do my expenses and it stopped 10 times with the BB waiting sign in the screen.

I have put down the message saving time to 15 days to see if that might relieve things.

I am running the latest software package (7.1.0 package 1149)

I have reset my phone to see if that helps on the short term.

Any additional tips would be great.
