Re: Text messaging

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

There is nothing to "reinstall"...rather, you must have done something to change the configuration. By default, all messages (email, SMS, BBM, etc.) are put into the main Messages icon/app. Some prefer this "unified messages" approach, others prefer to separate things. Fortunately, the BB provides the ability to split things out according to your desires.

On older OS levels (e.g., within and less than the OS5 level), there was very little control over this split...basically, just being able to split SMS/MMS out of Messages to an icon of their own (controlled by one of the Options settings within the Messages app). But, with later OS levels, more fine controls were provided:

If your device OS level (starting within OS5 and above) has the option, you can dictate what shows in Messages:

  • Homescreen > Messages > blackberry_logo.jpg > Options > (Main Message List Settings) or (Inbox Settings) or (Inbox Management)
  • Uncheck what you want to suppress from Messages, enabling a separate icon for those you uncheck

Good luck!

Re: Text messaging

I still can't find the texting icon.  Without that there is no way for me to compose and send a text.  i have tried getting others to send a text to my phone, but nothing comes in.

Please use plain text.

Re: Text messaging

Well, please tell me what you see when you attempt the things recommended above...technically, SMS cannot be removed as a service on the device. It can, of course, be removed as a service from the carrier...

Re: Text messaging

OK...so to be accurate, you do this:

  • Homescreen > Messages > Logo_Blue.gif > Options > Inbox Management

And it is there that "Text Messages" does not appear? Very odd...I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
  • Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app

2) Resend Service Books

  • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
  • Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.

3) Batt Pull Reboot

  • Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.

Good luck!

Hello,

I don't understand. Does anything you are asking about have anything to do with the discussion in this thread? I don't understand, from your words, what you are attempting. Please clarify.

Thanks!
