After 2 years of working perfectly my Torch 9800 is not recognised by Windows 7 64 bit laptop - now tells me "USB device not recognised by Windows". Thoughts?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
First question -- what changed on the computer just before this change in behavior happened? An update? A new app? Some new anti-virus app? Anything at all? Think carefully, as the tiniest change on the computer could be causal.
It may also be that the USB port on your computer has failed...did you try others?
You may also want to consider a re-load of the BlackBerry Desktop Software...if so, then I suggest this thread:
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
Good luck!

Thanks for the valuable reply. This is a blow by blow account which may help others who have this problem.
Nothing special had changed - usual security updates, etc.- tried a prior restore point - no luck.
Tried all 4 USB ports - no difference.
Finally tried your idea to reload BB Desktop Mgr. Did 1st run without clearing all preferences (an option). Did not work. Then did 2nd run and cleared everything. Torch now recognised! and does sync.
Only minor irritation is that it syncs immediately connection is made - despite option to do so being deselected.
Thanks for a great forum!
