Torch 9800 - turning into wireless hotspot

Hi There,

I currently use my Torch for tethering, however I now have a NOOK tablet and unfortunately there is no USB outlet nor can I setup data sharing as it only works off WIFI sources.

I need to be able to turn my torch into a wireless hotspot.  Is there anyway to do so with my 9800 or will a software upgrade become available to do so?

Thanks!
Jennifer

Unfortunately it is not possible to do so the best you can do is to tether as you know but as for sharing internet with anything other than a pc there is not a blackberry yet to be able to do so

Yes, there is. :smileyhappy:

9850, 9860, 9900, 9930, 9810, 9350, 9360, 9370 all are capable of being a mobile WiFi hotspot with OS 7.1 which has now been released.

But, not the 9800.

Understand that... I had to learn to not answer questions around here that I don't know the answer.

I hope that doesn't sound rude... but it's just something I have to remember.. or guide the user to the place that might have the correct answer if I don't know.

Re: Torch 9800 - turning into wireless hotspot

I think this press release from 09/01/12 covers it off http://uk.blackberry.com/newsroom/news/press/release.jsp?id=5308

Its worth noting the disclaimer re carrier certification so, depending on carrier, even with a compatible device it may be a while for 7.1 software goodness

Re: Torch 9800 - turning into wireless hotspot

I have OS 7.1 installed and my carrier blocks the wifi hotspot until I pay for it.
