Re: Torch 9850, unable to open email set-up application

Hi and Welcome to the Community!!

I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

  • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network

2) Delete and Resend Service Books

  • KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
  • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service

3) Batt Pull Reboot

  • Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should perhaps provide some further details...such as exactly what happens. Your subject line said you were unable to open the email setup app but the body of your post said you were unable to setup your email (which could imply that you could open the email setup app, but could not setup the email)...subtle, but the specifics are what help us best to help you.

Good luck and let us know!

Thank you for your very THOROUGH response.  I should have noted earlier that the problem had been resolved.  I printed out your resolution for future reference!

Thanks again

Re: Torch 9850, unable to open email set-up application

Dear Blackberry experts....

I am facing a strange issue with my 9850 from US Cellular. My supplier says that it is fully unlocked, and I am able to make phone calls, check balance etc on the new network (Airtel). The phone shows the network name (airtel), etc.

The SIM card is the same I was using with my earlier BB (Storm) and has a BIS plan activated and was working before. But the 9850 says I dont have a data plan. I tried using SIM cards from other operators as well, it shows 3G at times and when set to 2G network, it shows "edge" in small letters.

When I checked with Airtel technical support, they said that I need to get data unlocked.

Can some one advise what I am doing wrong... or if any settings are to be changed for me to get BIS on this device.

Thanks in advance for all your assistance / guidance.

I tried the above manual registration, but did not get any response. The Host Routing Table shows "No entries".

Also cannot see any option for Internet email set-up. Only Enerprise Email activation comes up.

From a new 9850 user.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Unlocked is unlocked...there is no difference between unlocking the device for voice or data. If it is truly unlocked for voice, then it is also unlocked for data.

What is most likely the problem is that the prior carrier has not released the PIN from their BIS system. Each BB can be registered at any given time to one and only one BIS system. If the prior carrier has not released the PIN from their BIS system, then the new carrier cannot register it onto their BIS system. The BIS account does not migrate with the SIM.

I  recommend you contact the prior carrier to ensure that they have released the PIN. You may have to go so far as to facilitate a conference call between the experts at both carriers so that they can resolve this.

Good luck!

Re: Torch 9850, unable to open email set-up application

I have spoken to US Cellular Customer Service. And he said that there is no issue. If I am not using their network, then the PIN might have been released by US Cellular.

Also I have updated the BB O/S software through Blackberry Desktop software. But once I finished updating the software, I got an message from US Cellular. So I assume my PIN is still with their network.

Have told my supplier to check with the seller in USA, and am also sending an email to US Cellular.

Hope I can eventually get the BB 9850 to work.

Thanks & Regards

George Henry
