Torch 9850 won't hold charge after OS update

I updated my blackberry last Wednesday with the latest OS (7.1), and since then, my phone won't hold a charge.  I started noticing it on Thursday, and it's progressively gotten worse.  A full charge will last only about 4 hours.  I've changed the battery out for a new one, but to no avail.  The phone won't hold a charge.  It will, however, still charge with either battery (the old and the new), and after it's charged (after being totally dead) it will turn on, andit will connect to Blackberry desktop software.  It just won't hold the charge.  Please help...what can I do???  Note: I live in Mexico, and have no warranty, so I can't return the phone.  So please, someone help with ideas that don't include getting a new phone, if it's possible.  Thanks!!!

Hi beccaethompsonand welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums!

Do you have any applications running in the background? Hold down your menu key on your BlackBerry® smartphone to open up the application switcher to see what's currently running.

Thanks.

Re: Torch 9850 won't hold charge after OS update

A media card full of songs and pictures will take a long time to generate the thumbnails and song playlist, possibly making it slow up first use.

On device go to Options, Device, Application Management is a great way to see what your apps are doing with your CPU usage on Smartphone. Just slide top bar to CPU and see what is going on. Also touch the CPU menu to see other time variables. I found out that an app was eating away CPU cycles on mine

Disable Compression on media card? go to Options, Device, Storage

using a custom theme? try it for a day the factory default one to rule out your theme

remember the esc key closes most apps, except for GPS and some chat clients. the other apps need to use menu and then exit or close. The farthest key to the right is a home key and does not close any apps per se but will end calls.

Re: Torch 9850 won't hold charge after OS update

Thanks, I think this might have been part of the problem. I actually had to deinstall several apps that had somehow locked "on" even after several battery pulls, which was inconvenient, but it worked. Thanks for the tip.

Re: Torch 9850 won't hold charge after OS update

Thanks for your help. I think it was programs I thought I'd closed running in the background, which was never a problem before the update, but oh well. Thanks again!
