Update your Torch wirelessly

[ Edited ]

Beginning October 6th, a software update will be available for the BlackBerry Torch.  BlackBerry Torch customers who upgrade their software will benefit from the following performance enhancements:

·         User input – more efficient for customer interactions

·         Applications – faster launching, exiting and switching

·         Home screen – faster rendering/smoother transitions when switching panes

·         Browser – faster page loading and improved panning

·         Media – faster rendering of thumbnails in picture application

·         Email/Messaging – faster/smoother scrolling in email and message list

·         Battery life – enhanced through further software optimization

·         Voice – Software improvements for improved audio quality

We thought we’d post a few steps to help you update your device software wirelessly.

Note: It is always recommended to back up your device before performing any updates. Please visit the BlackBerry Technical Solutions Center for assistance if required.

How to back up and restore BlackBerry smartphone data using BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.0

Note: If you are with AT&T, this process is Free!  You will not be charged for the data used during this process.  Latest update is currently only available for AT&T customers.

Click your Torch’s Universal Search icon (top right of home screen), type “update”

Click on the Wrench icon called options, then click Software Updates

Click Version 6.0 Bundle 695 Perform Update

Click Download & click Continue

Option: Click Install later to set a time & date or click Install now. You won’t be able to use your BlackBerry during installation
Allow the process to complete & the BlackBerry to reboot

This can also be found by navigating to;

The ‘All’ tab

Go to the ‘Options’ icon (wrench)

Scroll down to ‘Device’

Scroll down to ‘Software Updates’

Click Version 6.0 Bundle 695 Perform Update

Click Download & click Continue

Option: Click Install later to set a time & date or click Install now. You won’t be able to use your BlackBerry during installation
Allow the process to complete & the BlackBerry to reboot

A couple of things that are good to know:

-          Not to worry, your info, apps & BlackBerry will be restored once installation is complete

-          The entire process should take approximately one to two hours. Only during the installation process you will be unable to use your BlackBerry.  During the download process your device will remain usable.

-          BlackBerry corporate users will be able to perform this update if their IT admin has allowed access

-          You do not need to connect to your PC.  This is done wirelessly
