alarm issues

Hope someone can help me. My alarm works fine if phone is on or in beside mode but if I power off the device, it doesn't sound the alarm. It will turn device back on but will not play the alarm. I have checked all my settings & I just don't understand why this is. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!!

have the device turn on 5 minutes before the alarm and see if it persists.

are you using a standard ring tone?
