booting nonstop

Had problems with my old work Blackberry Torch not syncing correctly with calendar and email for gmail account only (left work so use it now for personal only).  Thought I needed to reset to factory setttings.  After I attempted to do that (it failed), it is now stuck in some kind of reboot mode... doesn't look like normal reboot screen though: all white, small pic of doc with big X on it and lock symbol... Keeps counting up to 100% and starts over. Tried taking out battery.  Nothing works.

Try starting the device in Safe Mode.. will that work?
