failing to detect or connect to wifi

Since lately my BB Torch is failing to detect or connect to my home wifi system, I even notice that it can't connet to external open networks. I use to connect so seamlessly before but now my Torch don't want to do wifi no more. I get a message saying "fail to obtain IP address" or cannot connect for some other reason I have never had before. This is very distressing to my wife and I who can't connect our individual Torch to our home wifi anymore.

Please help with a remedy.

Re: failing to detect or connect to wifi

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Best!

Re: failing to detect or connect to wifi

Tried that a couple if times but when I turn on the wifi on the phone to automatically sign in to the home network it doesn't log on immediately but maybe some minutes or hours later I will look on the phone and see that it is surprisingly hooked up on the wifi then. I will refer back to my mobile and ISP about this.

You also should remove and re-configure the WiFi configuration. And insert into that process several Batt-pulls (e.g., remove WiFi config, batt pull, config WiFi, batt pull).

It's also possible your Service Books are corrupt...with your WiFi radio turned OFF, I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):

1) Register HRT

 • KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
 • Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app

2) Resend Service Books

 • KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
 • Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.

3) Batt Pull Reboot

 • Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot.

There are also several public KBs that discuss such problems, but too many for me to list here might meet your specific conditions. Therefore, I suggest you search the KBs for possible articles matching you situation...usually, searching on the exact and complete error message is most useful:

Good luck!

Re: failing to detect or connect to wifi

Once you get WiFi working use BBProtect to back up your phone. It will also save the WiFi connection set up.
THE BITTERNESS OF POOR QUALITY, LINGERS LONG AFTER THE CHEAPNESS OF PRICE, IS SOON FORGOTTEN.
