Re: os version 7.1 error in downloading software for torch 9860

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Given your short description, I cannot tell exactly the method you are attempting to use...there are several. OTA on the device? Direct with Desktop Software? USB connected using the RIM update website? Loader.exe? BBSAK? Some other method?

Nevertheless, I recommend this method. At the top of each device forum, there should be some "sticky" threads that discuss the OS levels available for each model. Please use those as reference as you proceed.

From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:

Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. You can even use a different carriers OS package by simply inserting, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML. Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.

If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

Good luck and let us know!

[ Edited ]

hi, thanks for your immediate reply.

Actually i am trying to update through the desktop software manager, and from what you have mentioned, i think its because i have two versions available already : the os version 6 and the current one that i have which is os version 7.

now, do i need to delete both versions at once??? please assist me again.

im confused also because when i checked about the carrier, under mine its only version 7.. but from the desktop software and in my device, its showing about the version 7.1.

please try to simplify the steps i need to do.. and how i can delete those older versions and where..

thanks,

Re: os version 7.1 error in downloading software for torch 9860

On your PC, from the Control Panel, you can remove the extra BB OS packages. It is always best to have only one installed to your PC at a time so that the Desktop Software does not get confused.

You choose, from your carriers download page (linked within the instructions I earlier provided you), the BB OS package that you desire. To simplify those earlier instructions, if you remove all other OS packages from your PC and then install (to your PC) only the one BB OS package that you desire, then the Desktop Software should offer it to you when you next go into it, and you can use that method rather than the steps in my earlier post.

Good luck!
