torch 9800 does not detect closed slider

my torch 9800 thinks that the slider is always in open position.

 

the screen is always in portrait mode, will not rotate. the onscreen keypad is always grey (disabled), even when the slider is closed.

 

I pulled the battery, doesn't help. pulled the battery and left it out for 3 hours, still doesn't help. i upgraded OS to 6.0 rel2647, still the same. downgraded OS to rel695, the same. upgraded it back to rel2647. did a security wipe, doesn't help either.

 

i am not sure it is a hardware problem. Because when i close the slider and lock the phone by pressing down the lock button, the phone unlocks when i open the slider. So the sensor seems to be still working...

Can you take it to te store so a tech can take a look?  You've tried all the software options.  The only thing left is the hardware itself.
