using phone while charging

Hello,

I'm a new owner and wondered if there was any harm using the phone while it charges......and/or, even after it's completed charging, can I continue to use it for any length of time while it is still plugged in? While my initial thought was that I wouldn't be draining the battery in this way, I wondered if it might eventually overheat, if I'd be damaging the battery, or if this would shorten it's life???

Thank you.

Re: using phone while charging

There is no damage.

Personally when I forget to charge my phone, I have it hooked up to an external battery while using it for many years.

Thanks very much......do you have any thoughts on the so-called "mobile charging sticks & tubes" that seem to be advertised everywhere lately?......batteries that hook-up externally using a mini-usb? Thanks once again.

Re: using phone while charging

BlackBerry makes a "Battery Bundle" for the Z10 that comes with a spare battery and an external charger. You can charge both batteries with one charger, you can swap batteries, you can charge the device with the external charger by itself if the battery is good (though there is some limitation on this using a battery to charge another battery.)

I love the battery bundle.

Yes, I'm actually a huge fan of these "external batteries".

  • if you get a new phone, you can continue to use the external battery as they are generic.  Battery cases have you or dedicated batteries mean you often toss the case/battery when you get a new phone.
  • External batteries can also charge your tablet, in addition to your phone.
  • pay attention to the external battery mah rating.  Smaller batteries will have a much lower mah rating compared to longer lasting batteries.  The Torch 9810 is a 1300mah battery.  So a 2000mah battery will give you 150% more life.  A 6000mah battery will allow you to charge the 9810 four times from zero to 100% before the battery needs to be recharged.
  • research your tablet battery mah.  An iPad has a 11,000mah battery.  If you have a tablet, I recommend an external battery with 6000mah or LARGER.

  • my fav battery is the MoMax Turbo with 16,800 mah.  It can charge an iPad 1.5 times!  How can something so ugly be such an piece of beauty when travelling and the phone/tablet goes dead...

charge it once and it's good to recharge the Torch 12 times from zero to 100%.  So you charge it once a month?
  • some external batteries come with an amplified speaker to enjoy your music or videos.

  • only disadvantage is it looks kinda ugly to use the phone with the battery attached

One concern about these batteries is the USB connectors.  Some product reviews have found USB ports fragile, especially when the battery is thrown into a backpack with the USB cable attached.  Stress is applied to the USB port while in the backpack... damaging the port.
