1)Go to your Voice Note Recorder.
2) Record a Voice Note, as you would leave a V-Mail Messsage.
3) Play it back....
WHEN I PLAY IT BACK I SOUND CRYISTAL CLEAR. AND THAT IS NO UNDER STATEMEMT.

That's probably because you're holding the phone in a different position when you leave a voice memo. Try holding the phone in the same position you would during a phone conversation. That's when I get the muffled sound. Others in this post pointed out the "proper blackberry holding technique" which can help improve the sound during phone calls. If you hold the phone directly in front of your mouth, it works great! You just can't do that on a phone call unless you're on speaker.

I returned my first phone because of the very poor phone audio. Everyone commented on how they could barely understand me. Second one seems to be better, but not even as good as a three year old Samsung. I tried the Voice Memo thing - it sounded very good whether speaking directly into the microphone hole or holding it up as if making a call. I'm hoping that it could also be a software issue that could be corrected in the future.
This is my first BB, and I really like some of the features it offers. It's a shame that the quality control/design of the initial batches is so lacking.

Good evening everyone. I had the same problem. I purchased my Blackberry Tour on August 21 and I recently took it back a couple days ago (I ended up buying mine from Best Buy because the Verizon store was out of them at the time). When I returned my phone, Best Buy was able to give me a new one free of charge. The new one works just fine. I didn’t know that anyone else was having speaker problems with the Tour.

OK, it seems that i have been able to get the BB tour to work well now. Called verizon CS and they admitted to issues with the tour. apparantlly there are major Trackball, radio quality, and audio issues with all Tours manufactured b4 a certain date. The new tours are coming with a green dot on the outside of the box with a green dot next to the serial #. So i ordered one and when i first got it was better than the original tour but the audio seemed a bit muffled. I found a way to make it sound good . so here it is.
test poor quality by leaving a message on your own voice mail to setup a baseline for this test.
1) Go into phone dialer (by hitting hit green send button once)
2) select options.
3) select general options:
a) default call volume should be set to 100%
b) enhance handset call audio should be set to normal.
c) enhanced headset call audio should be set to normal.
now hit back key to return to menu.
4) select enhanced audio
a) select disabled
If you dont do these steps then you will not achieve good call quality!!!
Test by leaving a message on your own voice mail, and compare to 1st one. youll notice less muffled sound and much more clear and pure.
hope this helps!
