Busy timer clock in middle of screen, common solutions not helping

I have a Blackberry Tour 9630 with the 5.0.0.591 OS, and I am consistently seeing a busy timer/clock in the middle of my screen. It's usually there for a 10-15 sec and seems as if the BB is "thinking". I have tried the common solutions such as closing apps with the close command, doing a battery pull, etc, and have continued to have this issue. Any suggestions?

If it helps, here are the third party apps I have installed. I've put an asterisk next to the ones that need to stay open (or at least I think they need to stay open?):

- FourSquare   1.8.4

- GoogleMaps   3.2.1

- *Memory Booster   3.3

- *MissingSync   2.0.4.301

- OpenTable   1.0.2

- *RingScheduler   1.0.30

- *Skydeck   3.20

- The Weather Channel   1.5

Re: Busy timer clock in middle of screen, common solutions not helping

To prevent freezing or lagging/slow response on any BlackBerry, the most important practice you can adopt is to be sure to CLOSE applications when you are finished using them.

If you just hit the red "end call" key to go back to the home screen the application actually stays open and running in the background. If you do this repeatedly you will have lots of apps open and consequently your memory will get used up. Lack of memory is the biggest reason your BlackBerry slows to a crawl or locks up. If you get into the habit of actually using the menu key to close the applications this will at least slow down this memory-clogging process. You still may have to do a battery pull or use the "Quickpull" app once in a while when things get slow.

To check what applications are running on your device in the background, press the Menu key then choose Switch Applications. You will see the icons of each application there.

So now, check your applications running in the background. There are commonly four or five applications that will always be running (Messages, Call Logs/Phone, BlackBerry Messenger, Homescreen, and the Browser; there are other third party applications such as BeeJive, and BlackBerry Alerts which will also run in the background which you cannot close if you want them to operate). Make certain that the browser is NOT on an active webpage (open the browser and choose Menu > Close). Close any other applications that do not need to be running (the camera or a game you were playing or Google Maps).

And personally, Memory Booster is a sham and useless on the 9630 and all newer BlackBerrys.

Re: Busy timer clock in middle of screen, common solutions not helping

Thank you responding so quickly!

It makes sense that having applications open in the background, and not really closing them would cause it to slow down, but I have generally been pretty good about actually closing them and not just pressing the red button. I will definitely make sure I continue to do that, but could there be anything else that might be causing the slowness? Does the number apps that are fully closed or pictures stored on my Blackberry make any difference? I don't have a large amount of either, but am just trying to investigate!

Are you storing pictures ON the BlackBerry device or ON the Media Card?

Look at Options > File Free. What is the number stated there?

Likewise, you might not think you have a lot of apps running, but if you open the Application Switcher, what's there?

Is the browser on an active page?

Try opening the browser > options > Cache Operations > Clear Cache.

Now do a reboot: With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

After the device is backup, give it five minutes to settle all the data activity down.

Now, see if you keep having the hourglass lag?

Re: Busy timer clock in middle of screen, common solutions not helping

When I look at File Free under Options > Status, it says 102677541 bytes. And when Iook at my pictures area, it is set to save photos on the media card.

I have the following applications running: Phone, RingScheduler, Home, MissingSync, Skydeck, Browser, BBM and Messages. I don't have an active window in the browser, but that's a good thing for me to remember.

I am rebooting it now, and because the hourglass/ timer comes up randomly, I wont know right away if it is working, but I will keep you posted! Unless I am doing something crazy with my pictures, it sounds like this should work.
