Cannot add email address

I have tried adding an email address multiple times and each time I cannot open the Email Settings.  I get the same error message each time - 'Your device had a problem connecting to the server'.

I am running 4.7.1.61 on an unlocked Tour 9630, using a SIM card for a local provider.

I have restarted the device and re-registered new service books.

I have run a diagnostic test - it shows all connections to BlackBerry services - registration, connected to BlackBerry and PIN-PIN 'abort' yet I receive email on the existing account and can send PIN messages, etc.

Any suggestions?

Who is your local carrier?

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan on that local carrier?

The local carrier is Wataniya.  I have a BB data plan.

Re: Cannot add email address

I would call Wataniya and confirm they have provisioned this account with the BlackBerry Data Plan.

It can take some time, a day, and for setting up the email account, I have seen it take 15 - 20 tries to register the email address before it accepts it... same happened with me recently on ATT here in the States.

Re: Cannot add email address

Thanks.  Contacting the service provider is a last resort; customer service here leaves MUCH to be desired.

Might it be possible my phone is not really unlocked?  I've noticed that some settings still show Verizon settings, despite having the Wataniya SIM installed.  I do use Verizon when in the USA but anywhere else, I use a local provider SIM.

Re: Cannot add email address

You tell me:

To determine if your BlackBerry is "unlocked" for use on carriers other than for which it is branded:

1. On your BlackBerry, go to Options > Advanced Options > Sim Card.

2. At that screen type MEPD (see note below) on your keyboard. A new menu will pop up.

* If your BlackBerry has a SureType keyboard (71xx and 81xx devices) you will need to double-tap the P, so the actual keys entered become M E P P D.

3. Look for Network in the list.

4. If your device is "unlocked", it should say Disabled or Inactive. If it says Active, it's still locked to that carrier.

Re: Cannot add email address

SIM, Network Subset, Service Provider and Corporate read 'Disabled'; Network reads 'Inactive'. I will contact Wataniya; perhaps it is a network registration issue. Thanks.
