Okay folks the problem here is exactly what it sounds like: my BlackBerry Tour has a habit of playing my custom ring tones despite the fact I have the phones volume set to silent in the active profile. This is a behavior I have spent about two hours trying to correct and have been unable to discern a viable solution anywhere. I've got into the settings for the ring tones, theoretically they should be silent along with everything else but it doesn't matter, they continue to play. Normal ring tones do play silently, or rather those numbers to which I have not assigned a custom ring tone. Again this is a problem for me at work, so I'd really appreciate any guidance, it has been very difficult to find. Thanks!

Hi Jeff25624,
The behavior of your custom ringtones is by design. Once the custom ringtones are set, they remain active and do not change if the ringtone or profile is changed. They can be silenced by switching to the All Alerts Off sound profile. The user guide below explains how it functions.
Thanks,
-FS

I am having the exact same problem wtih my 8530 and since the software is esssentially the same I thought I'd follow up. First of all the link posted by the BB Tech isn't working.
Secondly, if the custom alerts can't be overridden by an active profile then what's the function of the "Play Sound" menu that allows for the following options?
-In holster
-Out of holster
-Always
-Active profile
It would seem to me that the menu is asking how it should behave in a given profile (ie: Will it ring only while in the holster or will it follow the active profile or should it ring no matter what?)
Curve 8530 (Sprint)
OS: 5.0.0.654

so, now that I am sick of this ring tone, how do I get rid of it all together, I just want to go back to the normal ring tones nothing custom?

Is there any answers for this at all? I'm having the same prob and would like to have my phone on silent but still notified by vibrate but the custom ringtones wont allow it, I'm having to switch off all alerts.
Surely silent should be silent!

I hate it! I have the same problem..I have had it about 3 weeks now and I go to the movies and the ones I have set to custom will ring even though I have it on vibrate..shouldn't BB have an update to fix this? I think it warrents a phonecall to BB..ugh!

okay I found my problem...just make sure you have a 1 in front of area code on those custom ringtone people. I came from apparently from the 8310 to the 8530 it has changed and I needed a 1 in front..voila..it now is solved!

i find that is very stupid if u ask me ...no matter what active profile u are in the custom ringtones suppose top follow it ....blackberry should really rectify that problem

Very interesting that BB calls this failure "working by design". I just joined the forum as I was experincing the same active profile does not work problem on a BB Storm. And yes it is a software problem. A later post says they fixed their problem by adding a 1 in front of the telephone number. I just tried it and it works. It is a work around for a software failure and not the end users "problem".

Well they still have not fix this they acually made it worse. I just got a new torch and adding the 1 before the number will not work anymore so they must really think that not being able to make custom ring tone to work with active profile is the way it should work.
