How to use calling card and dial long distance?

I've googled this and I can't seem to find a solution.

I'm trying to use a calling card on my phone, and I don't mind calling the actual card #, and entering the PIN#, but do I have to MANUALLY enter the LONG long distance phone number (long and it's hard to memorize) that I'm trying to reach?  Is there no way that I can go into my phonebook (during the phonecall) to find the appropriate number I want and enter it directly from there instead of me entering it?

I've tried going into the phonebook and found the contact and pressed "call so-and-so" (assuming it will enter it as if I manually entered it), but it turned out to go to my other line and called that long distance number directly.  I'm going to be hurting when I see my next bill.

I also tried going into the phonebook, viewed the contact, and tried entering it manually as I am viewing the number, but it doesn't work because the call doesn't register whatever I tried entering.

Please tell me there's something I can do about it.

Re: How to use calling card and dial long distance?

Hi there!

I remember seeing this when it was first posted...had some thoughts, but decided to hold back to see if anyone really knows how you could handle this. But, since you've had no responses, here's my thoughts...

With the cost of calling on cell services having become so cheap, it seems that many (perhaps not all) device manufacturers have removed the calling card features. I recall them from years ago, but really haven't needed to use them in a long time, so haven't looked for those settings in a long time. From what I can gather, BB's have indeed removed such configuration items in favor of using your carriers network for making all calls.

I tried looking at the Smart Dialing features, but I'm not sure that it would work for what you want. What you probably have to do is to enter each contact item with all of the appropriate codes, waits, pauses, etc. so that you can then select the contact item and it will then dial the full string of information that makes the call via your calling card.

Sorry, but those are my thoughts.

Good luck and let us know!

Hi,   I use the App "Cardkaller". quite happy with it for the money. There are cheaper ones to try as well. Be sure to check out the Apps.  My carrier costs 35 cents a minute. a card i use is 4 cents!  worth it to me!

Hi !

I have been using for about a year now an application called BerryMiser that you cann install on your device. It works by routing the call you make through a "gateway" number of your choosing (you can set one that is local to you) so that all your calls become local calls and your carrier does not charge you for long distance calls.

I have a package that goves me 1000 minutes anywhere in North America for 14.95/month and excellent international rates.

If you need more info their site is: www.mobilemiser.com  :manhappy:

Re: How to use calling card and dial long distance?

Hey

You can't call from your contacts using a phone card like you have been trying. It probably doesnt work because the system that is trying to bridge your call to the person you are calling recognizes the number by listening to the touch tones of the numbers you need to press.

Check out www.ubidialer.com.

ubiDialer is basically a long distance calling card app/plan that combines the cost savings of calling cards with the convenience of your blackberry. You can call straight from your contacts, call history, dial in a number, etc. No more dialing in access numbers, pin numbers, and the number you want to call. Unlike other apps that offer only a call back service, ubiDialer also allows for a direct call service which eliminates the need to call a contact, hang up, pick up the incoming call and wait for the system to bridge your call to the person you are calling. Simply make a call like a normal call and ubiDialer will connect your call without any additional steps or expensive LD charges.

The rates are very competitive and it allows you to call over 190 different countries at the lowest rates. Sound quality is very clear.

Hope this information helps!

Re: How to use calling card and dial long distance?

Be careful about this, as if you lose your phone, it could expose your calling card number...

Enter a number in your addressbook as the dial in number you need, a space, an x, and then the rest of the number you wish to dial. You could use the "Other" phone entry space for a name, for example.

example, lets say the calling card number is 888-888-8888, the pin is 1234, and the actual phone number is 212-555-1212

The entry in your phone book for this dialing card and phone number would be...

888-888-8888 x1234,212-555-1212

This would allow the dialing of the calling card number. A prompt will show up on your screen, and you can trigger the remaining numbers as you need to once the calling card initial dial makes a connection.. The comma will be turned into a "pause". You can also add other characters like * and # as necessary.
