I purchased a new Blackberry Tour (9630) and I can't get it to sync with Outlook. I am using Blackberry Desktop Manager v5.0.1 and Outlook 2007. Every time that I try and sync my Blackberry, while "determining the root configuration name for main system", I keep getting an "Unknown Error Reported" message. I have read and tried practically every solution on the internet that I could find, but nothing seems to work. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the old software, as well as just about everything from the KB13801 tech support document. I'm so frustrated with this thing not working, I'm about to throw it out the window- HELP!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Sorry, but from what you've said I cannot tell if you've yet tried this procedure...apologies in advance if it is redundant...
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
5) Install DTM to your PC
6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
7) Start the organizer configuration over:
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!
button inside of their post. Further, if you are the original poster (OP) and your issue is solved, please remember to (on the post that is the solution) click the "Accept as Solution" button so that others can more easily find it. Cheers! Oh...and FWIW...I am not a RIM employee...and these forums are user-to-user...not user-to-RIM.

Hi!
All your support isd based on uninstall/install or remove/add procedures!!!!
YOu do not watch the core of the probblem (i.e. log files) so I think that you are 1st level of help desk with less knowledge of many of us...forgive me but this seems to be truth.
The error is more then obvoius on Office 2010 x86 and even on clean machines (XP SP3) ...
What else can be in touch with this error...let us help ... This is enterprise software which seems to be made ba collega girls after heavy party.
Please do help us .... you are a brend and this is here is far from that.
Regards,
Damir Vadas

I agree FunkyDisco --- the Enterprise sync software is buggy! Very poorly written code, as evidenced by the fact that the sync process is constantly bombing out. Now, the new 6.0 version of the software won't work with one of the most popular blackberry apps out there - Ascendo DataVault.
When will RIM learn? Maybe never. At least there are a lot of other options out there .... Google Android is one I have my eye on, but the iPhone's good too.
