eMail Alerts won't work regardless of settings

For some reason I don't get any alerts (vibrate, tone, red led) for new email messages. SMS, phone, calendar, etc all work fine. Messages are received fine but again no notification in or out of the holster, and yes I have checked to make sure the ring tones/alerts are set correctly and not silenced.
I have tried changing tones and combining tone and vibrate and pulled the battery but still no good.

Any help appreciated.
PS .I like having the sound icon on the top left corner of the screen.

Re: eMail Alerts won't work regardless of settings

I just got mine today and I think there is a bug here somewhere. I set my sound profile to "phone calls only" and I am not getting LED when I get an incoming email.

I changed the sound profile back to "normal" and I get the LED now. (along with the vibration when I get an email and the phone is in the holster)

On my 8300 I always set sound profile to "phone calls only" to avoid the vibration when the phone is in the holster. I still got the LED though.  So, it seems the "sound profile" is controlling more than sound.

Re: eMail Alerts won't work regardless of settings

I ended up talking to Verizon support. We spent about half an hour going through various options but nothing fixed it. We ended up wiping the blackberry Tour and I then started from scratc. The alerts worked after the 'wipe' but after I did the blackberry sync (BB Curve to BB Tour) it stopped working again. I decided to delete my MSN Mail account after the sync and then add it back again and it now works fine. It is most likely a bug with the transfer of date from Curve to Tour.

Re: eMail Alerts won't work regardless of settings

This response may or may not belong here... it's similar but different... I did a transfer from an 8703e to the Tour... and most things APPEAR to be working fine, i.e. the LED lights, but I may have wiped quite a few things? I.e. I only see one or two new pictures for background selections for the phone, and then all the old ones that came with Blackberry's say 4 years ago... did you guys' Tour have some cool new photos on it? So far thats all I am noticing I may have wiped... but I am worried I wiped other things as well

Re: eMail Alerts won't work regardless of settings

Just checked my pictures. At first check I thought the pictures that came with the Tour were gone because they didnt show up under 'All Pictures" but I found them in the Sample picture folder.

Re: eMail Alerts won't work regardless of settings

Hi all and welcome to the forums!

The Blackberry's use index files to provide a quick reference so you media can be displayed promptly.

I've seen this problem before in upgrading software and transferring phones.

If you explore the media card you will find BBTHUMBS.DAT files. These are the index's.

I have had success in deleting the .DAT files, doing a battery pull and letting the phone reindex the media files.

When you wipe the phone these files may not get rebuilt correctly.

Tmurphx5 is your problem now resolved or do you need more information/

Thanks,

Re: eMail Alerts won't work regardless of settings

The 'wipe' didnt work, it left half of the MSN email working, i.e. I could receive emails but not send them and the aletrs didnt work. So I  deleted the email account on the BB and went through set-up again to add the email account and everything now works fine. As it is back working I wont delete any DAT files but will note that in case I have further problems.
