how do I reduce the number of icons that are shown on the short menu bar after clicking the blackberry menu button?
for example I want the web browser to appear on the main menu but not on the shortcut menu in the foreground

"Short Menu Bar" -- do you mean the ribbon that pops into the middle of the screen when you hold the BBKey? If so, that is the App Switcher Ribbon and will always display all running apps, so it is basically context sensitive...if an app is running, it will display. There are 5 that will always display
Any others are apps that you have opened and not closed completely.
Cheers!

thanks for the answer - it helps...just to follow up, is there anyway to remove the below items you referenced as always being there.
i like the idea of a app switch ribbon but only for certain apps. i never use the blackberry messaging only Google talk; I also never need to click on the phone app icon etc.
again thanks

Nope...you can't remove them because they are always running. The phone app, for instance, must be running...otherwise you'd not receive any calls. The rest are likewise part of the core apps that are always running.
Cheers!
