Q1.  Can an Enterprise Administrator role choose which folders can be marked for redirection?
A1.  Yes.  The Enterprise Administrator role can perform all tasks that relates to user accounts, services, instances of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, and global application data. This role will not be able to view role membership, licenses, or encryption keys.

Q2.  Can you assign Active Directory Security groups to Administrative roles?
A2.  Yes, you can assign Active Directory Security groups to Administrative Roles.  There should be no problems in doing this.

Q3.  What are examples of push content?
A3.  Push content are applications that are sent wirelessly to the BlackBerry Smartphone.  An example would be a weather application on the BlackBerry Smartphone.

Q4.  What does it mean if the collaboration server is not listed under the IM to BES mapping?
A4.  The BlackBerry Collaboration Service was not selected during the install of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software.

Q5.  When creating Administrative Roles, does an Administrator require specifying a password?
A5.  An Administrator can create Administrator Roles using the Microsoft Windows Authentication method which would only require supplying the Active Directory account of the user or by using the Microsoft SQL Authentication method which would require the Administrator to create a username and password.

Q6.  Is there a way to monitor the potential errors in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software?
A6.  You can install BlackBerry Monitoring Service which is included with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software; or you can configure BlackBerry Alert service to notify Administrators of warnings and errors.

Q7.  Is the cache flushed when the BlackBerry Attachment Service is restarted?
A7.  Yes, the cache is flushed when the BlackBerry Attachment Service is restarted.

Q8.  What are the implications of restarting the BlackBerry Messaging Agent(s)? Why would the BlackBerry Messaging Agent(s) need to be restarted?
A8.  Restarting the BlackBerry Agent(s) will affect message flow for all BlackBerry users on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.  When the BlackBerry Messaging Agent (s) is restarted, the BlackBerry users will experience delays in receiving messages to their BlackBerry Smartphones.  An example of when the BlackBerry Messaging Agent (s) would need to be manually restarted would be if it had been automatically restarted 10 times within a 24 hour period.

Q9.  Does the Enterprise Server Support WMV; WMA; and AVI extensions?
A9.  The following are the supported attachment formats for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software:

doc: dot: xls: pdf: ppt: pps: wpd: zip: txt: htm: html: bmp: jpg: jpeg: gif: png: tif: tiff: wmf: wav: rtf: mp3: docx: dotx: xlsx: pptx: ppsx: amr

Q10.  Are the Administrative Roles for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server listed in order of greatest to least privileges?
A10.  Yes.

Q12.  What is a redirect, in reference to the MDS Connection Service?
A12.  A redirect is when a user browses to a website, and that website redirects the user to a different page (HTTP or HTTPS Redirect).

Q13.  Where does the MDS fit into the "big picture" of the Blackberry solution and what runs through it?
A13.  The Mobile Data System is what allows users to browse web pages, as well as allows traffic to and from a custom application on the BlackBerry Smartphone.

Q14.  In which location in the BlackBerry Manager can Administrative Roles be found?
A14.  Administrative Roles can be found in the BlackBerry Manager by selecting the BlackBerry Domain from the Explorer View.  Select the Role Administration tab to assign users to the appropriate Administrative Role.

Q15.  Is there a way to customize the Administrative Roles in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server?
A15.  Customization of pre-defined Administrative Roles and creation of new Administrative Roles is currently not available in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software.

A16.  Yes.

Q17.   Does MDS act as a Proxy for the BlackBerry smart phones?
A17.   MDS gives similar functionality via pull authorization rules.  However, MDS can be configured to send all traffic through a proxy server.

Q18.  Where is the Connector Configuration pane that contains the Server Submit Port that needs to match the Attachment Submit Port?
A18.  It is on the Attachment Server tab of BlackBerry Server configuration panel.  The default view is the connector configuration, but there's a dropdown menu which will allow you can switch the pane to view the attachment server settings.

A20.  A worker thread is considered non responsive if it has not returned results of its actions. Performance issues of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server or Messaging Servers is an example that can cause non responsive threads.  It can also be due to a large operation such as scanning large mailboxes.

A23.  Please contact the Technical Support Department at Research In Motion in order for a representative to provide assistance in recovering/changing the admin password.

Q24.  What permissions does a user need outside of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to be assigned a Security Administrator role on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server?
A24.  There are no permissions needed to assign a user to the Security Administrator role on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Q25.  How do you add additional extensions to the Attachment Server distiller list?
A25.  A distiller would have to be created in order to support the custom extension.  Once it has been created, the extension can be added to the BlackBerry Enterprise Attachment Server distiller list.  Please see the following Knowledge Base Article on how to add a custom distiller:

A27.  When you select the MDS Integration Service link from the BlackBerry Manager, you will be prompted to view and install a Certificate.  Once the certificate is installed, you will be then prompted for a username and password which was specified during the installation of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software.  This information is contained in the BlackBerry Configuration Database, however it is encrypted.
