February 26th Questions and Answers-Chapter 8

[ Edited ]

February 26, 2009

Q1. When is a negative ref ID generated?
A1.  Every message sent to the handheld will have a  - ref ID. Every message from the handheld will have a positive ref ID.

Q2. How many mailboxes per agent?  i.e.  When is a new agent spawned?
A2. By default, a new agent will be spawned after 50 users on one exchange server are added, or if you add users from a different exchange server.

Q3. We have our BesAdmin account as part of Domain Admins, if we remove it then the IT staff is unable to send messages and the sendas/receive as permissions are unchecked from their profiles. Any suggestions/recommendations? or known fixes....?
A3. blackberry.com/sendas

Q4. What does it mean when there is no pending message count, but the device is not receiving any messages? (PIN is correct on BES)
A4. It means that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is not communicating with the Exchange Server, so it is not aware of any pending messages.

Q5. I've been activating devices for 2 years - never had this happen before.  The pre-population has some items that were actually "Sent" items, but they showed up as a "Read" incoming email (an open envelope icon not a check mark icon.  What would cause this?
A5. This is a known issue: SDR184848 – Fixed as of 4.1.6

Q6. I have users that say they do the “Reconcile Now” command but nothing happens?  Why would this be?
A6. Typically the messages are moved to a PST, or hard-deleted, while hard delete support is not enabled on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Q7. Two different appointments are created, one on Exchange and the other on the BlackBerry smartphone, simultaneously, for the same time slot for the same user. In this case how does this get reconciled?
A7. There would be 2 appointments created for that timeslot – the same behavior you would see if you created 2 appointments in Outlook for the same timeslot.

Q8. During BlackBerry activation, I’ve had errors appear while syncing contacts saying that sync could not be completed, even though it looks like all of the contacts are there. Any ideas of where to look at more details on why it couldn’t finish syncing the address book?
A8. Typically there will be a messages saying the address book did not completely sync, if any of the following conditions apply:

1. Contacts that do not contain either a company name, or first and last name combination
2. There are personal distribution lists
