BB World Delivering old version of the app

Hello,

 

I released new version of the application (1.0.1). BB World shows (in text) that it is already available. When I try to download it then it downloads old version 1.0.0.

 

I also get error report from one user that in app billing returns errorCode #2 (not sure at the moment what it is).

 

BlackBerry, could your please give us more light how it is possible? And potentially fix it as it is inconsitent behavior.

I am getting this from a few users as well. The typical response from BB is that the app has some restriction on OS version, carrier and/or country. In my case, those are not the case.

It looks like it happens every time I deploy new version to BlackBerry World. I'm losing money because of this.

That happened to me for a long period of time. Took BB forever to fix it. Dont know if they did a permanent fix or a patch to just get it released properly. They (BB) will typically ask you to check if there are any limitations on the BAR file (OS, version, country, carrier). Check that first.

This is more serious problem than BB may think.

 

Yesterday I  released new version of app. I sold about 50 licensed but this error displayed to people 192 times (according flurry). So I lost a lot of money because of this issue.

I cant tell you how much money I have lost over the years due to BBW bugs. In most cases, it takes weeks for BB to reproduce the issue and then months before the fix is pushed out. Best to contact the BBW people on this forum (they do a good job in trying to help), and sit tight. Have users report the issue directly to BB. It seems that this carries more weight then the developer reporting the issue. Issues that impact a greater number of people takes on more importance.

I already contacted BlackBerry Development Advisor here so we will see.

I'll also make remedy in code. I'll apologize for the issue and ask user to try it later again.

To all users that contacted me helped to try it couple hours later.

But I think that it is systemic issue in BlackBerry World that needs to be addressed as both developers and BlackBerry lose money because of it.

It sounds like there are 2 separate issues:

1) BlackBerry World is not displaying the correct version of the application

2) The Payment Service is returning errors

 

For #1, as jtegen pointed out, can be caused by restrictions placed on the release when uploaded to the vendor portal. It can also take about 6 hours for the BlackBerry World cache to clear *after* the app is posted for sale.

 

For #2, here is a list of the error messages:

This error means that a call is in progress when trying to make another call using the Payment Service APIs. All Payment calls must be done sequentially, simultaneous calls are not supported.

Re 2) Thanks for explanation, it could be a clue. I was not aware of meaning of these codes. They are not mentioned in Cascades documentation

 

It woudl be nice to add link at  https://developer.blackberry.com/cascades/reference/bb__platform__paymentreply.html#function-errorco... and at any places where this error code can be returned.

For #1 it could be carrier, OS or language restrictions, You can go into the vendor portal to see if any of these exist and also verify the app is posted for sale.

 

#2, yes, good catch! I have those errors linked in my browser, will let the docs folks know we need referenced added to the Cascades site as well.
