FYI:  App World (Vendor Portal) will no longer accept try and buy PlayBook apps.  The platform has changed to "QNX" and you receive an error "Platform selected for File Bundle(s) do not support Try & Buy license type."

RIM has been notified.

Interesting. But if it says "Platform does not support..." and platform is QNX, then my guess is that it has sth to do with BB10 (obviously), meaning they are probably testing AppWorld in BB10 <externally> already, just that there have been problems with BB10 in try&buy

Though I don't understand why they don't offer both in the platform selection. We'll see

Loving this. RIM has removed the ability to have Try and Buy without letting anyone know. The suggested alternative is to do a in-app purchase for a subscription. However, noted in other threads, this does not work very well for PlayBook apps using AIR.

This must be a bug. Users tell us we need MORE try & buy apps, not LESS!

Not a bug. "Future" try and buy apps are to be subscription based.

Future as in, next year.  Didn't they say they're rolling out a new in-app purchase system late this year, with them as merchant of record, because there are legal (taxation) issues with the current system?

No, "future" as in two days ago. You can not upload an app if your settings is "try and buy". However, you can not change that setting in the vendor portal. Lots of catch-22's here.
