Update app, why a small surge in downloads?

I have a paid app which is not getting many downloads. I updated it a few days ago, and I see today the number of downloads for the past few days was higher than normal, and then ending Sunday with less.

Normally Sunday is higher...

I didn't check, but could it have been listed in the new arrivals area from an update, or somewhere else? I don't know where else it would have been exposed to more people, seemingly coincidental that I just updated it.

I generated a chart for 'purchased' perhaps its also showing me the downloads which were existing user updates?

Thanks

Re: Update app, why a small surge in downloads?

Many of the downloads are "updates" vs. new downloads. Depending on the number of new apps updated, you probably got some lift from the recently updated section.

I don't see anything like a 'recently updated' section on the playbook. Do recently updated apps show up in new arrivals?

Guess they got rid of that section. So then, your bump is from people just doing an update.

Re: Update app, why a small surge in downloads?

There used to be a Recently Updated list. I would notice that when I updated one of my paid apps, there would be not just the expected downloads by users who got notifications, but also a brief surge of new purchases. The time spent on that list would vary, but at least there was some visibility.

Chalk it up to yet another feature that disappeared, and along with it the opportunity to get noticed, however briefly.

I use to look at that list. Did not hear that RIM was removing that feature.

Re: Update app, why a small surge in downloads?

It was in OS 1.0 but I think it still exists the reason I say that is it I have a similar situation as OP except it was a spike (upward) in sales after an app update. No additonal promo.. which is weird.
