Vendor Name: What are the rules?

At some point I swear I'll stop asking questions and will know enough to help answer them! Anyway, onto my next query about vendor accounts. In my account settings I can change my account name. The guideline says:

This is the name that will be displayed as the vendor name for your products.
Please use the full legal name of your company; or, if you are not part of a company, your own full legal name.

Now, what does this actually impact? I've registered as a private individual and so payments are linked to my PayPal account. For tax I'll be declaring any income in my tax return direct to HMRC. What else might they use the "legal name" for? Is this a hard and fast requirement? I would like to publish my apps under the name "floor4" as that's what I use for my blog and in other markets - I have no real desire to have my full name on the app store, even if it's easy to find anywhere I write / post.

Where do you live? You can file a DBA name with your state, get a business license under that name, and if you want to call the business "floor4" then who's to stop you, as long as it's official.

Around here filing with the state was free, and the business license is about $30 unless you're making a lot of money.

UK based. I'll take a look at similar local options at the weekend and report back, but was looking for the lazy route :smileyhappy:

Cheers for the reply silver.

Re: Vendor Name: What are the rules?

If you want to eventually sell in the Apple store also, without selling under your personal name, they will absolutely require a business license or articles of incorporation, even if you have a registered trademark, DBA certificate and notarized copy of your ID.

Good luck
