Down loading from app world requires ID and password. I have forgotten my password. Using the forgotten password facility and answering the security question accurately I am informed that the password reset will be sent by e-mail. My ID is an old e-mail address so I do not receive the reset instruction. The instruction on the phone is to go to options for a security wipe and resetting everything. I am not keen on going down that route as I will lose all my contacts etc. Any advice how I can go about resetting without losing data?

I think you are in a losing situation...but, just to be sure, start first with these please:
If you have forgotten your BB ID credentials AND have non-BB access (e.g., Outlook, webmail, etc.) to the email account that is currently configured to your BB ID account, then those instructions should allow you to recover access to your BB ID account.
