No Cached Credentials - error ID 40721

I updated Appworld on my Curve 8900 when it first became available a couple of weeks ago and immediately started getting the message about something being wrong with this session and try again.  I tried a couple of things like deleting and re installing AppWorld, and now I get the message "No Cached Credentials.  Error ID 40721" whenever I try to upgrade apps or download new ones.  I have complete access from AppWorld online with my computer browser.  I have updated my Blackberry ID and my payment options.  I am still unable to use AppWorld on my device.

Re: No Cached Credentials - error ID 40721

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

I suggest that you clear the AppWorld application cache:

1. Open App World

2. Go to My World

3. Follow one (and only one!) of these steps:

3a. For keyboard-based BB's -- Hold down the ALT key and then press, in sequence R, then S, then T

3b. For Touch Screen Only BBs -- Hold the num-lock (!?123) button so it locks and then press, in sequence 3, then 4, then (

3c. For newer (e,g., OS6 and 7) BB's, see this KB:

    • KB24714 How to clear the BlackBerry App World cache

4. AppWorld should close.

5. If your BB locks after issuing the cache clear, perform a battery pull reboot

6. Return to AppWorld/MyWorld (it may be sluggish while it re-synchronizes).

If step (4) does not happen as listed, then the clear cache did not work.

Hopefully it'll work for you! Good luck and let us know!

Also make sure that your BB is properly connected to your BB ID...depending on your OS level, the screen may be in different places:

  • KB29610 Explaining BlackBerry ID and BlackBerry Identity

Good luck!

What about the last thing I asked about?

Re: No Cached Credentials - error ID 40721

I am unable to view or edit BBID on my device because when I try to view my settings, I get a message saying 'unable to update Blackberry ID account info while offline'. After I updated my ID at appworld.blackberry.com, I expected to be prompted to enter my login the next time I went to appworld on my device, but I wasn't.

That is interesting...hmmm...what is the status, in Manage Connections, of BlackBerry Internet Service?

You also might find this KB useful (if BIS is connected that is...if it's not, then there is a deeper problem):

  • KB29300 "A BlackBerry Identity update is needed" message appears when launching BlackBerry App World 3.1

Good luck and let us know!

Re: No Cached Credentials - error ID 40721

I don't subscribe to the BIS service. I only have voice service through TMobile and rely on wifi for my connections.
After I updated AppWorld, I did get the prompt to update my Identity. I'll try to do what the link suggested and get back to you.

Re: No Cached Credentials - error ID 40721

Oh gosh! No BIS service? Well, in that case, there are a tremendous number of services to which you are not allowed access. Depending on circumstances, AppWorld may be one of them! Some versions of AW allowed access without subscription to a proper BIS data plan, other versions require BIS. From your description, I would therefore surmise that you updated AW to a version that requires BIS, and therefore can no longer access AW. Which would then qualify as WAD -- Working As Designed.

Sorry I didn't think to ask that earlier...a BB with no BIS plan is, IMHO, pretty much of little utility.

Good luck!

Re: No Cached Credentials - error ID 40721

I appreciate your expertise. I agree with your opinion of not having the data plan... just living within my means. I have a wife and six kids. A BB with no BIS is better than no BB at all. I inherited my boss's device when he upgraded. Just deactivated the BES policy and I was good to go. Thanks for listening while I justify myself.
BTW would it be possible to downgrade my version of AW?

Believe me...I understand financial constraints...I've been unemployed since being laid off last October...

Oh I do hope you did that properly...there are very specific methods to do so, and many methods folks think work actually do not (e.g., the on-device WIPE commands do not touch the IT Policy).

Typically, you can access two versions of AW. The most current version (which you already have) and the version that was packaged with your BB OS. To fall back to that, you have to reload your OS so that you can regain that version of AW. But, nothing in between is "officially" available -- though I've seen links from time to time of folks hosting unofficial AW versions (no...I have no list).

Good luck!
