Re: Blackberry Z10 - Stuck on Checking for update

Inserting a SIM card was the key. Now looking at a fully functional Z10, thanks so much.

Yea, I guess that would have been a good question to ask you, I assume too much.

Really.

Reminds of the time (I know this has happened to lots of people) a friend called me to ask to help trouble shoot their internet connection. We tried everything until he finally admitted he didn't have the DSL incoming cable to the PC plugged in.

Always ask the basic questions (and often get shot down).

Re: Blackberry Z10 - Stuck on Checking for update

I should also mention that the SIM I inserted was NOT setup, it came with the phone for a prepaid plan. All I did was pop the SIM out of the plastic card, put the SIM in the Z10. I did no setup on the SIM, cannot make a phone call at all (my choice, I did not setup the SIM, this phone is for development mainly)  So my final question on the setup of the Z10, Is the only reason it worked over wifi was that the Z10 cannot setup without a SIM inserted? ie it needs an IMEI number? Seems strange that an active wifi signal is superceded by no SIM inserted. Anyway thanks for the help.

Re: Blackberry Z10 - Stuck on Checking for update

Actually, no SIM is required at all. I've set up a Q10 and a Z10 with no SIM inserted.

I suspect there was some problem with your WiFi connection, but don't know for sure. I've seen others need to find a totally open and free WiFi router where a secured Wifi connection would not work.

Re: Blackberry Z10 - Stuck on Checking for update

Weird, I setup the wifi before this whole issue began. Added in my BBM id, did the 'Update', then the Z10 kept getting 'looking for updates' message, inserted a SIM that was not setup (never called Koodo still) and somehow that allowed the Z10 to report that updates were found. No matter, I love the 'feel' of the phone and will be putting another 'active' SIM in it to use as a phone.

Re: Blackberry Z10 - Stuck on Checking for update

Right, that's separate from the Setup, when you told it to check for updates it's looking for a mobile provider to check from, the device doesn't have a "generic" update, but it's tied to a mobile provider, of which you had none connected to the device at the time, with no SIM card inserted.

Re: Blackberry Z10 - Stuck on Checking for update

Hi :smileyhappy:

I'm having the exact same problem, but I DO have a SIM card installed.

- performed first time setup and OS update through wifi connection yesterday

- Took the battery and SIM card out (with power on when I removed 'em) for 10 mins

- tried shutting down and doing the same with no luck

- left the thing on for hours overnight, did not stop 'checking for updates'

- tried to reboot again this morning with no luck. The phone is so new I don't know my phone number, meant to check on the device proper. I know I have service in the area because I see the logo of the provider.

Not sure what to do here. Please help!

Re: Blackberry Z10 - Stuck on Checking for update

tallchick, so to be exact, at this point your Z10 will not boot up at all?
