Enter Carriage Return in SMS?

[ Edited ]

Hi

Is there any way to add a new line while sending a text message or bbm? The only option is to send or submit and the shift+enter old way is not workin. Ithat a bug? or there is another way?

Thanks

I have not found a way do that.

It's worth putting on the feature request list.

Re: Enter Carriage Return in SMS?

Hi,

I found a solution for the Q10. Maybe it also works on the Z10:

  • press and hold "alt" until it is locked
  • press enter to ad a line break

As long as "alt" is locked, "Enter" creates line breaks.

To release it, preass "alt" again.

On my Q10 it works for

  • SMS
  • BBM
  • Whatsapp
  • Maybe some other apps as well but I did not test this

Please let me know if it works.

Please feel free to hit "Like" if my post was helpful :-) Thank You!

Re: Enter Carriage Return in SMS?

Again, thanks, that does not work on the Z10.

Re: Enter Carriage Return in SMS?

At new update 10.1.0.4181 BB fix this issue.

At new update:

1. You need to type the SMS without set any "To"

2. You can see the "Enter" Button. When you press that one immediately it will go to the next line.

3. If you add any number under the field of "To", the "Enter" button will not appear. You can see the "Send" instead of that.

If you don't update to the new OS Sytem, please follow :

1. Open 'Settings'.
2. In 'System Settings', open 'Language and Input' setting.
3. In 'Language and Input' menu, under 'Text Input', tab on the 'Automated Assistance' option.
4. In 'Automated Assistance' menu, tab on 'Word Substitution' option.
5. In 'Word Substitution' feature and assuming that you have turned 'On' the feature, tab on 'Add Shortcut' in the bottom of the screen.
6. In 'Shortcut' setting, under 'Typing' and in the 'Original Word' box type '**' and in the 'New Word or Phrase' box keep pressing the 'space' bar until the cursor is absolutely at the end next to the 'X' (the delete mark) and then hit 'save' and exit.
7. To test it, open either a BBM or an SMS chat. In the chat, try typing a word in the first line, peas the 'space' bar once and type ** and then press the 'space' again to get to the next line.

Re: Enter Carriage Return in SMS?

For Text Messaging: If you write a text with no recipient entered, yes there is a Return Key. You can add the name/number last of all if you'd like to use it. A text message sent this way will be included in a 'Conversation' view after it has been sent as well if you use this method. (Information gleaned from reading this forum).

Re: Enter Carriage Return in SMS?

In the Hub, select 'Text messages', 'More', 'Settings', 'Text messages', set 'Use Enter Key To Send' to 'Off'.

Carriage Return will now be available.
