Re: New Blackberry 10 Sync to Outlook

I don't know that it was difficult (and it is fully explained in this thread) but it wasn't even planned to do at all until the middle of Februrary.

Re: New Blackberry 10 Sync to Outlook

[ Edited ]

John_Clark, thanks for the input regarding keeing the SIM card in place while "Reloading" factory software. Good to know it is safe/best to leave it in place.

In the meantime, I thought of another perhaps simpler approach if one wants a clean start on the BB 10 device, perhaps not completely as "clean" as a factory reload, and that is simply to go to "Settings", "Security", "Wipe Device", to remove apps, documents, settings, etc.

Regarding the use of an uninstaller such as Revo uninstaller on BB Link, yes, it is always possible to create very, very serious (as in unbootable computer) problems when one uses software that involves any changes to the Windows registry. I would encourage anyone considering this to look up Revo uninstaller, as it has been around for a while and has a pretty strong track record. I've come to rely on these uninstallers when in a jam, trying to address applications that won't uninstall completely: for example, you uninstall, and when you reinstall, it still has your user names, preferences, etc. Revo and other uninstallers are designed to rid the registry of that sort of material so the user truly has a fresh start, as one might want/need in trying to "re-recognize" the BB 10 device for the first time.

(If this really makes one sqeamish, there is info on the MS website as to how to make a backup of the registry before doing any such uninstall. One can a) create a restore point or b) from the "Start" menu, type "regedit", "File" menu, "Export", which will create a file that can be placed on the desktop, etc, which contains the registry entries as they are, and there is an "Import" to return to a prior set of registry entries. Overall, creating a restore point is obviously easier)

Regarding the comment on needing BB OS 10.1 to do 2way sync, I've fortunately been able to accomplish this with 10.0 version (ATT user, when I check for "upgrades", BB Z10 says "none available'). So, who knows...

I'm encouraged that if BBRY only knew of this in February, they have done an imperfect job, but clearly moving in the right direction at least as some of us have experienced. We just need to keep providing feedback as to how to improve the functionality, though I have no idea how best to provde that feedback, as my experience calling AT&T is futile, and I'm not aware of direct link to the BBRY development team. Apparently, the only communication to the BBRY tech team is to call ATT, get bumped up to ATT Blackberry specialists, and have ATT Blackberry specialists contact BBRY directly. I did this in early may and the "official" response I got, which I thought was somewhat lame was "BBRY is aware of the issue and is trying to make the user experience as good as possible, Thank you". Not a confidence builder, but alas, a hobbled, but somewhat functional version of BB Link with 2way USB sync is here.

Regarding the lack of a "BB Link" account in settings reported by "Publisher", I think of this as indicative of a root cause blocking succesful 2way USB sync, I think this is a key observation (confirmation from others appreciated).  If your PC is not able to create a BB Link account on the device, then I don't see how it can create a BB Link related calendar or a BB Link related contact file. (Same would be true for LinkedIn, which also shows up under "Settings" "Accounts", you'd never see your LinkedIn contacts).

I would guess that trying to sync in the absence of a BB Link on the device would be futile. My suggestion would be to back-track a step and see a) if BB Link recognizes your device when connecting via USB, eg seeing the taskbar message from BB Device Manager recognizing the device, then seeing BB Device Manager reporting  that "mass storage available. Device volumes have been mapped to the following drives: "Z", "Y". (While unlikely, I supposed if the BB Link software is somehow programmed to only map to the Z and Y drives, that if one already has something mapped to Z or Y, it could create a problem. If one is having problems, and one already has someting besides the BBRY device mapped to Z and Y, then remap the other device to another drive letter). Then I would go to the device settings page in BB link and under synchronization run through the options as outlined previously on page 88 of this thread.

If I had to guess, the BB Link account as listed on the BB Z10 or Q10  device under "Settings" "Accounts" might only be visible after the first successful transfer of contacts and/or calendar information. I don't remember otherwise seeing it. Others feel free to chime in with feedback.

It took a month of playing with third party apps and trying all the aforementioned uninstalls/reinstalls to finally get things to work right, and it was worth it.

Re: New Blackberry 10 Sync to Outlook

In my experience it's actually better to reload the OS than to do a security wipe. Just my $.02.

Agreed regarding reloading OS on BB Device, same as using uninstaller program prior to a fresh install of an application on a PC.

Thanks for the feedback.

Re: New Blackberry 10 Sync to Outlook

The problem with being an early adopter is that you end up trying to be part of the solution in ironing out the issues. My Z10 and the software etc have been a disaster and presently is not fit for purpose which was a business tool but as a stand alone unit it is a bit of fun and there is still loads of stuff I don't need to learn about.  The time on the forums and trying to sort out the problems was turning into hours, and hours I could not afford running a business so I bought an iphone and that was literally plug and play smooth as smooth, normal business resumes. The kids can have the Z10 until the thing really works like it supposed to which is when the Ludites start buying them.

My calendar on the Z10 turned some events into recurring events--to infinity.

hello,

please find more information in this article from the public knowledge base:

KB33792 Recurring calendar appointments that are migrated to the BlackBerry 10 smartphone have no end date

This information is also available in the BlackBerry Link manual, page 10.

Re: New Blackberry 10 Sync to Outlook

When I get to this point and click on the 3 dots i only see two choices - "All Contacts" and "Favorite Contacts".

11) At this point you can go to your "Contacts" icon and open the app. It should be blank. In the lower left corner of the app are 3 bars. Touch this. It will list the core groups that the BB device comes with, ie BBM, Linkedin, Favorites, SIM card, etc. I would click on each one to make sure they are blank. I would especially check the SIM card as this is mischievous and can cause duplicates that have hung around from prior efforts at sync'ing. If you still have any contacts, either delete via BB, or use the "PIM Backup and Restore" app I've described via BB world to "clean house".

Re: New Blackberry 10 Sync to Outlook

Also on Blackberry Link I get the yellow triangle on the device and it tells me I have an update available but it is the same version as that already on the device.  Even though I chose to install again, I get this message each time I connect to Blackberry Link.  I am on 10.0.10.116

Re: New Blackberry 10 Sync to Outlook

To MPF94025

Many thanks for your detailed instructions which i followed to the "T". Unfortunately i still ended up with the dreaded "failed to commit changes to device". I am able to do calendar 2-ways but only have about 100 out of my 970 contacts and they won't sync further.

I have now downloaded a trial version of Companion Link which is a $50 package. So far it is working as advertised and has all the filters and mapping controls we came to expect from BB. It also syncs notes and tasks.

It is very sad that RIM brought the 10 to market without the supporting tools. I really hope they can get Link sorted in the next few days. In the meantime I shall be smiling and using Companion Link - which, by the way, runs on top of BB Link.

Re: New Blackberry 10 Sync to Outlook

I would recommend contacting Vodacom and getting your case escalated to BB. They may be able to look through the logs and find what is causing the sync to stop. My guess is you have a corrupted contact file somewhere.
