UK meeting invite does not respect timezones

I am in the PST timezone. I received a meeting invite from the UK from the GMT timezone for 3pm.

If I accept this invite on the Z10, it schedules it at 3pm my time, which is 8 hours off. It should schedule it for 7am my time.

If I accept this invite on my desktop (Thunderbird/ Lightning client), it schedules it correctly, and the calendar entry when viewed on my Z10 is also shown correctly.

This issue is preventing me from being able to accept external invintes on my Z10.

I am using a shared CalDav calendar with a Zimbra server. Let me know if you need more details, I can send the actual invite if needed.

Re: UK meeting invite does not respect timezones

Hey rblaa,

Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.

Thanks for the question.

Do you notice it is only affecting appointments in GMT or is it affecting other time zones as well?  Also what version of BlackBerry 10 are you using? Go to Settings>About to find this information.

I look forward to your reply.

Cheers.

Re: UK meeting invite does not respect timezones

I am not sure about other timzones, I would have to craft a message.

I am running 10.0.10.85

I have also filed this at https://www.blackberry.com/jira/browse/BBTEN-1166

In particular, I have attached a test invite that demonstrates the problem.

Re: UK meeting invite does not respect timezones

Thanks for the reply rblaa.

If you forward the meeting appointment to a different email account, does the time difference appear or is it still off?  Has the issue been on-going since you received the BlackBerry Z10 or did it just start?

I look forward to your reply so we can find the root cause.

Thanks.

Re: UK meeting invite does not respect timezones

[ Edited ]

Yes, when I access the invite with another email account on the Z10, the same problem occurs.

If you look at the BBTEN-1166 jira defect, you can see these lines describing the timezone. I suspect the problem is related to the timezone not being recognized:

TZID:smileysad:GMT) Greenwich Mean Time - Dublin / Edinburgh / Lisbon / London
...

TZID:Europe/London
...

DTSTART;TZID="(GMT) Greenwich Mean Time - Dublin / Edinburgh / Lisbon / Lond
 on":20130423T150000
DTEND;TZID="(GMT) Greenwich Mean Time - Dublin / Edinburgh / Lisbon / London
 ":20130423T160000

Perhaps the fix is to obey the numeric timezone offsets as opposed to parsing the timezone name or id:

TZOFFSETTO:-0000
TZOFFSETFROM:+0100

Re: did this just start? I know I have received other invites from other timezones that did work, since I recall seeing warnings in the event calendar display that it was filed in another timezone but displaying according to the local one. Those invites were from elsewhere in the US..

This reinforces my instinct that the issue could be a timezone is not being recognized in the invite. Note again that the invite is being recognized correctly on the desktop (via Thunderbird), which indicates that the invite itself is adhering to standards if other apps can recognize it.
