My phone goes directly to voice mail and I cannot find the setting to correct the problem - can someone walk me through the steps.

When does it go into voicemail? When you start up the phone app?

I'm not sure what you mean by starting up the phone app?

When does it go into voicemail?  When you turn on the Z10?, go into contacts?  go into your phone ?

I suspect you mean that incoming calls route directly to voice mail.

Open the phone app. Swipe down from top bezel. Choose settings. Chose call forwarding from the menu and make sure that forward all calls is off. If that is not on, call your carrier and ask them for some help, this could easily be an issue on their side.
