Z10 Rebooting - Verizon

I have had my phone less then I week, and overall I love it. HOwever  ever since the latest software update, my phone randomly reboots during overnight charge ,  1x to 2x a night.    I tried closing all applications including Hub ++, but this is still a problem.  I am worried this will effect my battery life over time.   It doesn't reboot during the day, only during extending charging.    Verizon has offered to replace it,  but I am trying to hold off until the lastest software update?  This month?  When is this expected and will this correct the OS bug?   I want to try to avoid having to do a warrent replacement if possible.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

Since they control it for you, only VZW can answer when they will release an OS update -- but, as with all public companies, they tend to not announce anything until it is real.

Good luck!

Will this damage the battery over time? In any event replacing a phone is a hassle warranty or not.

Re: Z10 Rebooting - Verizon

Along with many other possibilities, a malfunctioning battery could actually be the cause of this. By and large, rebooting should not damage the battery per se.

Good luck!

Re: Z10 Rebooting - Verizon

I am also on Verizon and experiencing the nightly reboot issue.  Like you, I prefer to keep my current phone in hopes that an update is released soon that fixes this issue.  Reading on the CB forums this seems to be a common issue with the VZW version and is typically NOT fixed by replacing the phone.

Re: Z10 Rebooting - Verizon

My phone was rebooting at least once a day, usually in the middle of the night, occasionally during the day as well. I would not be doing anything special.

In the last week, there was not a single night without a reboot.

This was disconcerting, since BB10/QNX's microkernel architecture is supposed to be robust with processes going bad.

I seem to have found workaround: turn off diagnostic reporting to RIM/BB. I was thinking originally it is good to give reports of errors, reboots, dropped calls, etc., but it seems like diagnostic reporting itself was causing it to choke, which is a little bit ironic.

Since I have turned off diagnostic reporting, there have been no reboots occurring.

PS. Why doesn't the last reboot time show in the About display? It always says "not available". It seems like an easy value to obtain.

Re: Z10 Rebooting -

My Z 10 is rebooting whenever it feels to, there is no specific reason. Dont know what to do, does someone knows the reason behind..? Also, if I keep the phone on a table or mildly slam on my palm it switches off .....

An interesting discovery...perhaps cured in later OS levels? Has your carrier released any update? Have you reported any of this to them for formal support?

Good luck!

Hi and Welcome to the Community!

From that description, I would deduce a physical problem with the device. Perhaps something loose inside that, when physically jarred, causes a connect/disconnect/short which causes a reboot. Like all physical issue, such can of course only be properly diagnosed by a qualified technician with the device in their hands. If you still have warranty, then I'd therefore suggest you seek support under those terms.

Good luck!

I had issue similar to this in the past and my bttery contacts were dirty. I used a pencil eraser to clean them up and wiped with lint free cloth after.
