app/setting/hack to keep the screen on? (for some battery testing)

[ Edited ]

Anyone know of a better solution to this issue, or is that pretty much it? TIA.

I read the post and responded to it on CB. Maybe there is a setting in the engineering screens?

Re: app/setting/hack to keep the screen on? (for some battery testing)

Currently there is not a better solution (using the app BatteryGuru in its "Keep Screen on" mode).

There is not a setting in the escreen that I know, and I wouldn't recommend that solution in the first place to any casual user -- too much one can 'break' in there without ever knowing until it's too late.

BatteryGuru does this well. I can't imagine why anyone would want to leave their screen on indefinitely other than to drain the battery, anyway -- which is just what will happen.

Re: app/setting/hack to keep the screen on? (for some battery testing)

I second the response given by JSanders. At no time should anyone attempt to access the engineer screens in a BlackBerry device. If you mess up something in there, it's often impossible to recover the device and this includes resetting it to factory settings. There, you've all been warned.

Cheers. :smileyhappy:

I third the response by J Sanders. The only way you should try to access the engineering screen is with a hammer!

It isn't for a casual user, if you went to read the post at crackberry as suggested, you would realise that anandtech is trying to complete some battery tests for their review...

Re: app/setting/hack to keep the screen on? (for some battery testing)

[ Edited ]

So, the AT reviewer claims that BatteryGuru isn't suitable...

But (so far) prefers not to engage in any of the threads I've started on his behalf to explain:

1)

How (in detail) it is unsuitable for the testing regimen planned

2)

Whether that regimen is exactly the same as what's been used for recent major reviews

If the answer to 2) is yes, I'm yet to see how the app would be a "showstopper" for completing the regimen.

But giving this person the benefit of the doubt, can someone please point to this other (riskier) solution?

I'll do some digging soon myself, but if someone knows the entire process "off-the-bat", that'd be great!

If that user refuses to test or participate, what's the big deal, let him figure it out.

@jalyst,

I'll just move our chat to the PMs so that we don't have to chat through all of the chaff in this thread. :smileywink:

I think I answered his initial question "or is that pretty much it?".

There is not an escreen setting for what he desires to do. And this forum has had a policy of not posting hacking and escreen editing threads.
