Re: random restarts / reboots

I have had my Z10 for 11 days now. Only the first few days I had 2 or 3 unexplained reboot. It has since stabilized.
Could it be some pushed updates in the beginning. Or was it static electricity from me as the house was dry. Or is it the browser a memory hog. I am not talking about memory leak. I am saying the browser takes hundreds of megabyte.

I now as a good practice, close down unused active apps and close down browser tabs and not have 8 or 9 of them open.
I have not have any reboot since.
I don't exactly know what it was. But it is working perfectly for me now and I just love my Z10.

Re: random restarts / reboots

I think I have found the reason for my Z10 reset. It appears the reset is proteccting the device from "Danger Socket".

I happen to find two log files in the PC, in the Z10 backup folder called "crashlog". One file is named netlog and the other one is named syslog. The file creation date is the time I had my random reset.

Interesting that the time inside the log points to a different date...April 18th 2011, according to the Windows Explorer. May be all crashes uses that same date??

Following is copy and paste of part of each file. I see the words "Danger Socket". It appears the reset is protecting the device!

As I have said before, after the first week, everything settles down. Hope this help the Z10 owners not to panic to return or exchange their Z10 because they think there is something wrong. Give it sometime to settle first. I don't know exactly what happen but it worked for me. Cheers.

Re: random restarts / reboots

I have encountered this issue on my Z10 a couple of time since I bought it from Fido last Sunday.

The first time it happened when I was a reading news in reader mode, and second time when I was listening music, it seemed pretty random to me.

I'd like to know if there's any debug or troubleshooting mode so I can to get some core dump records and submit it ?

Thanks.

Yu

Re: random restarts / reboots

@Beavertail, thanks for your efforts. I think you are right about your advice of not taking the drastic step of returning the phone. However, I think the problem could be severe in some cases, as mine..the phone just dies after some days.

My first Z10 did the reboots very frequently and on the 14th day, it just died sitting there on my desk. Returned it, got a new one STL100-2 (same as the first one). It's been 2 days and no reboots until now. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Re: random restarts / reboots

I have a Z10 Model STL100-3 with SW Rel 10.0.10.85 32G SD card. Trying to use BB Link to load music onto the SD Card. two tries and the phone crashed twice.

This is making me think about returning this phone for a competitors phone. Not happy BB - not fricken happy.

@TorgueMonster, do you have media card encryption on?  If so, set it to off and try again.

Re: random restarts / reboots

[ Edited ]

I've used three different #Z10 devices. The first was an unlocked model 100-3 and in 60+ days never an unexplained random reboot. This current VZW model 100-4 I've had about ten days and a random reboot at least each day.

The media card is not encrypted. It has been reformatted in this current #Z10 in the past week as troubleshooting precaution for the reboots. Still get them.

I have no side-loaded apps on this device. I did on the previous #Z10. The reboots have no commonality. The BlackBerry may be lying idle or charging or I might be actively using some app or game or searching contacts.

Re: random restarts / reboots

I don't think TorqueMonster's issue is the random reboot issue. I also don't think media card encryption is involved in the frequent reboots that many are experiencing. I was having same problem as TorqueMonster and turning off media card encryption was the fix for me. I'm not experiencing the same reboot issues as others, only when trying to copy/sync from computer to media card with encryption on.
