Yeah, I see no point either in extending the limit. The whole tournament, involved putting a link for your blog to the appgenerator and pressing the next button mindlessly (I know, because I pretty much did the same). The effort which I had to put in for a developing a cascade app is way more than this.
But Blackberry should have done a little bit more follow up regarding the delay. Anyways, not too frustrated about it.

Got it too.
As for extending over 5K, part of me agrees, as it'd be better to use the extra money for a future portathon, rather than pay for more app generator apps. On the other hand, I really don't expect anyone to be able to sell an app generator app for any real money, so saying just make a great app and you'll recoup the money by selling it, probably won't work for app generator stuff. Even advertising seems broken or nonexistent for app generator apps. Perhaps Blackberry could do something for those who submitted after 5K though ... extra Jam rewards... something like that.
I also got an email last week about Blackberry autoporting Z10 apps to Q10, which I opted out of, as I think doing it manually will work a lot better. Their autoporting Playbook to Z10 didn't look so good, and their aspect ratios are a lot closer. If Blackberry held a Q10 portathon in lieu of extension, I agree, it'd be a much better use of their funds.
