so the simulator is a large pain in the @$$, it's slow and clunky- i refuse to work with it . how can i get my hands on a dev alpha device?

Welcome to the Forums, regarding the Simulator, I'm posting here a link with some instructons to improve performance, this might help.

Make sure you have virtualization enabled in your CPU, this will give a significantly performance boost on your simulator, hope this improve your overall experience with it.

It doesn't make sense...not all developers can go in place to get a developer device...

I guess only limited number of them exist.
