Empty Memo Pad/ Notes folders in Outlook

I have recently started to use Desktop Manager with Outlook 2011 and everything has worked perfectly with one strange exception. The MemoPad/ Note folders from my BB 9700 showed up in Outlook, as did everything else. However the next day when I tried to open the folder I discovered that it was empty, as are all the other Note folders. I check my BB, and nothing was deleted. I have spent quite a bit of time with Microsoft, but they haven't been able to identify the source of the problem.

Has anyone else had this experience and fixed it?

Re: Empty Memo Pad/ Notes folders in Outlook

Desktop Manager on Mac doesn't sync directly from Outlook to BB. Mac override Desktop Manager's option so that it will only sync to Mac software such as Addressbook. That's my understanding of how it works. My contact is very crucial for me so I make sure that I could transfer from Outlook to BB. It has to go through Addressbook. I have to make sure the contact on the Outlook is the latest version so that I could transfer them all. I said transfer since I always choose to delete all contact from BB during so called Synchronization. There should be an easier way but at the moment that is the only option works for me.

I wish it was as easy as PC. May be because there are 3 competitors working together, Apple, RIM and Microsoft. Apple don't care because they have iPhone, Microsoft don't care because of PC, RIM should care but they are very slow since nothing change since migrated to Mac.

Re: Empty Memo Pad/ Notes folders in Outlook

I'm also getting blank notes in Outlook 2011 sp1.

I used to use MissingSync, but heard Blackbery Desktop now syncs Notes with Outlook 2011 SP1 so I wanted to try it.

It does sync the titles of all of my Notes into Outlook, but there is no content; they're all just blank/empty notes.

Any ideas how to get the Notes into Outlook 2011 in their entirety? Might be nice...

Re: Empty Memo Pad/ Notes folders in Outlook

The notes are not actually blank. Just you can't see it in Outlook. Not sure how to resolve it, as long as it doesn't delete the notes, I guess I can live with this annoying issue.

Re: Empty Memo Pad/ Notes folders in Outlook

Yeah, I noticed that also.

But the other annoying thing is if I sync again, it just creates doubles of these "blank" note entries!

I'm surprised this isn't a hugely common bug...or is it just us? Is anyone NOT having this issue?

Re: Empty Memo Pad/ Notes folders in Outlook

I have entries on Memopad as well and I wanted to copy them onto my computer. Thus this started the process of finding out how to do this.

The freeware BBNotePad is what I've found that works.

You just copy/paste the link and email it to your Blackberry, click on the link, scroll to the bottom (I clicked on BBNotePad.jad) and click on one of the downloads.

Once you have BBNotePad, open the app.

**Before you start saving your Memopads to your SD card on your phone, I suggest configuring your settings first.**

When you have BBNotePad open, click the menu button, scroll to 'config'. The only setting I changed was the 'File writing format', which I changed from the default (UTF-8) to UNICODE. I tried saving them without going to 'config' and keeping the default settings but when I connected my BB to my computer and tried to open the Memopads in Word (2011), some of them didn't translate well and had glyphs and funny symbols. I would suggest trying UNICODE because they all translated fluently for me.

How to get them on your computer...

Once you've changed your settings, click your Menu button, click Open Memo, go to a Memopad note and select to open it in BBNotePad, then click the Menu button again, click Save as... and you can save it to your SD card. Once you've saved all of your Memopads to the SD card on your phone, connect it to your computer, and you can open them up in Word or any word processor. You can right click on them and open them in your web browser too.

This will take some time but it's worth it if you have alot of memos. One problem that I have run into is that for some reason, some memos will not save to my SD card. I'm not sure why but some just don't. Hopefully you don't have this problem. If so, you might just have to type them out on your computer, no biggie though.

Hope this helps!

Re: Empty Memo Pad/ Notes folders in Outlook

Did anyone find a solution for this? I'm having the same problem and it's quite troublesome since I keep a lot of Memo Pad/Notes. It's a disaster especially if you type anything in the Outlook Note that appears blank (ie. a space or a letter), since it will erase and replace the data in the Note in Mac.

Re: Empty Memo Pad/ Notes folders in Outlook

Even with the newest OS the problem was not solved.

After years of using BB I think RIM is stuck in the past. I bought an Iphone and the future runs way more smoothly
